While on vacation we came across this awesome restaurant in Charleston WV. We were looking for Gluten Free Pizza and this hit the spot. When you walk in you are greeted by an upbeat and friendly staff. We came around dinner time on a Thursday night and did not have to wait for a table. We were seated at a table for two in the back. It was cozy. The restaurant is bright, modern, and comfortable.

We were greeted by our server who was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the gluten free options. Almost the entire menu can be made gluten free! We ordered the antipasto salad and gluten free garlic bread for appetizers. We were famished! The server had to go ask if they could do the garlic bread as a gluten free option and came back quickly saying that they could. I have not had garlic bread since before my celiac diagnosis so this was a real treat for me. The salad came out first. We ordered a small but it was large enough for 2 people to have large portions of. I can’t begin to imagine how massive a large salad would have been. We couldn’t decide on dressing so the server kindly brought us both the vinaigrette and the creamy gorgonzola. I liked the vinaigrette best. The salad was amazing with a large portion of meats and veggies.

The garlic bread came out next. It was basically a gluten free pizza crust with garlic oil and cheese on it and a large bowl of tasty marinara for dipping. The crust is thick and chewy and amazing so it translated well to garlic bread.

We ordered two gluten free pizzas. The pizzas were small but since we had eaten garlic bread and salad we still could only eat half a pie which is 2 slices before we were full. I suggest if you are only going for pizza then order 1 per person to fill you up. They have so many unique pizza flavors I had a hard time choosing just one. I wanted to try the red grape, the chicken gouda, or the steak and mushroom. Since alan wanted to try the steak I ordered the steak and mushroom. He ordered the Mediterranean Shrimp pie. The steak and mushroom had large juicy pieces of steak and large pieces of mushroom with gorgonzola cheese and horseradish sauce. It was amazing!

Alan loved his shrimp pie with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, shrimp, garlic, lemon, and herbs. He had never tried artichoke hearts or kalamata olives and found two new foods he likes!

They also offer many beers. We were going to be driving so we did not partake in alcohol. The gluten free beer that was available was Green’s Trippel which I have had before and remember liking a lot. They also had woodchuck cider and one other organic cider that I can’t recall the name of. They do have desserts but I did not ask if any were gluten free as we were already stuffed. We only choose to eat out once on any given vacation and carefully choose our restaurant. I am so glad we found Pies and Pints. It was a great atmosphere with friendly knowledgeable servers, quick service, and amazing food. We will visit other locations for sure when we see them on our travels! Way to go Pies and Pints for making it fun and easy to eat gluten free safely!

First off, I want to say: No, Five Guys has given me no incentive to write this review and we are no way affiliated with Five Guys. This Five Guys is just that awesome, and impressed me that much.

This is by far the best Five Guys I have ever been in. Where to start…

Laurie ordered her bread free burger and notified the cashier of an allergy. She was then offered the choice having the burger in a bowl, or wrapped in lettuce. Wrapped in lettuce is a great option offered by some restaurants, but this is the first time this offering has ever been made at a Five Guys.

We paid and sat down to wait on our food. While waiting, I noticed the tables in this place were immaculate. We did not have to inspect multiple tables, we did not have to ask to have a table wiped down, nothing. We simply picked a table and sat there. It was great!

Finally, our number was called and I went to get our food. All in three separate bags. Yes, you read that right. They put the fries in its own bag, my regular burger in its own bag, and Laurie’s burger was in it’s own bag. No need to request new fries, no worry of cross contamination, nothing. Just perfect, always delicious Five Guys.

After finishing eating, it was time to hit the road again after a quick bathroom break. At this point, I was pretty convinced this Five Guys must have hired Mr. Clean, because the bathrooms were as spotless as the dining area.

At this point, I don’t know what more I can say Visit this Five Guys, you won’t regret it. Good job guys.

Nizza Restaurant New York Gluten Free Pizza Review

Nizza Restaurant

After reading the reviews and arriving at Nizza Restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, we had high hopes, especially since they were quite packed. We opted for eating at the bar, as a wait on a table would be quite a long time (there were 5 of us). Once at the bar we ordered our drinks, and all went downhill from there.

Our drinks went empty a few times, each time we had to work to get the attention of the bartender (who was busy socializing with other Nizza employees) and point at our empty glasses to make her understand what we wanted. As I said, they were quite busy, so we refrained from complaining on how long it took for our food to be ready. What we did have to do, was send back my girlfriends gluten free Socca which is toppings on a chickpea pancake (the closest thing to a gluten free pizza they had on the  menu). It was burnt!  We’re not talking a little dark, either. The Nizza employees actually thought it would be ok to send out a “pizza” with black crust, a black bottom, and burnt toppings. I wish we had a chance to get a picture of the black mess.  We had them remake it and were told it would be about 5 minutes. After quite some time passed a new socca was brought out to her. She described the crust as mushy and tastless with a texture that was hard to choke down. The sauce and cheese were bland and of low quality. The sausage topping was great and the only thing she really enjoyed but there wasn’t much of it. The long hot peppers that were supposed to be on it were missing.

We could have eaten at another highly reviewed gluten free pizza joint but, due to the fact that this one was GIG and GFRAP approved we made the grave error of choosing Nizza.

The rest of the Nizza’s Pizzas? The other members of our party described the pizzas as “plain”, “tasteless”, and “it sucked”. One was all sauce and no cheese another was all cheese and no sauce. One was missing a few of the toppings that were clearly listed for this pizza on the menu. We ended up making a pizza sandwich of the two different pizzas to end up with something edible. Oh and they didn’t even bring bread to the non gluten free guests in our party.  All other tables were served bread and oil with spices to tide them over until their food came.

We passed our dislikes on to the manager, who stated he was sorry we didn’t like it. He let us know that Nizza’s pizza was “authentic” and that Nizza had the “best pizza in New York”. Then he walked off.

As for the Nizza Restaurant gluten free pizza, my girlfriend had pain and bloating equal to a gluten response for 24 hours after eating it and she is still having residual problems 3 days later. She hadn’t eaten anything else that could have caused a reaction. I’m not saying Nizza’s food caused her this reaction, it “could” have just been a coincidence… Or, it could have been the food.

We all left NYC that night unhappy with our dining experience.

Good job Nizza Restaurant. Burnt food, probable glutening, lack of care, and horrible customer service from both the standard employee and the management.
