My local Wine & More finally got a new gluten free beer option. I love it when I come across something new to try especially when it will help me relax at the end of the day. While at Total Wine off Midlothian Turnpike the other day, we saw something that was greatly offensive and possibly quite dangerous to the celiac community. A giant colorful new sign had been hung over Wine and More’s “Gluten Free” section featuring the logos of the Total Wine and More declared gluten free beer options. We immediately noticed the Estrella Logo and were shocked to see it there. Underneath in poorly done plain black font the words “Gluten Free” had been added to the company’s logo. Could it be that Total Wine took it upon themselves to decide what was safe for Celiacs? Total Wine apparently not only put Estrella Damm Daura on the signage with actual gluten free beers, they went so far as to apparently add thier own claim that Estrella was a gluten free option. Having Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance no longer means you won’t be able to drink with your friends, or enjoy a cold beer after a long day. Thanks to quite a few companies out there, you can now enjoy an adult beverage without the worry of it making you sick. But, be careful; thanks to a few other companies false claims, you may not be as safe as you think.
